Legislature holds oversight hearing on the Juneau Road/Ferry Project

The Senate Transportation Committee held a hearing on February 26 to examine the fiscal impacts of the Juneau Road/Ferry project, including the project's impacts on transportation projects statewide and the accuracy of the project's current cost estimate.  The Department of Transportation's arguments fell flat when it tried to compare the cost of building the road with the cost of operating the entire marine highway system.  The committee quickly caught on to the flawed comparison, but DOT's use of skewed data is emblematic of its pave-at-all-costs approach.  The project could begin construction as early as this summer after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issues a final permit decision, expected sometime this spring.  Please take action to help put an end to the Juneau Road/Ferry project by writing to Governor Palin.
