Help Break the Silence on the Juneau Road

Just because you haven’t heard much on the Juneau Road lately doesn’t mean that it’s dead. Permits from the Army Corps of Engineers are still pending. If the Corps approves the project and Governor Palin does nothing to stop or delay the project, construction could begin on the road this summer.

Just because you haven’t heard much on the Juneau Road lately doesn’t mean that it’s dead. Permits from the Army Corps of Engineers are still pending.  If the Corps approves the project and Governor Palin does nothing to stop or delay the project, construction could begin on the road this summer.

Let’s build the pressure to stop the road!

Please write to Governor Palin.  Let her know that. . .
•    Alaska doesn’t have enough money to start this road, let alone finish it.  In October 2007, DOT admitted that they are missing $244 million of the estimated $374 million cost of the road.

•    There are other, more urgent ways to use dwindling transportation dollars.  The Juneau Road/Ferry Project will come at the expense of other transportation projects including the Glenn/Seward Highway to Highway Connection, needed road upgrades in the Mat-Su Borough, and the massive backlog of deferred road and bridge maintenance.

Ask your friends to help.  The dead-end extension will likely pull funding from other projects around Alaska, making it a statewide concern.  The Governor needs to hear from people all over the state.  By talking with your friends and family, you can help make that happen.

Write a Letter to the Editor.
This time of year, legislators and the governor’s staff use letters to the editor to gauge the pulse of the people.
