Poison Cove

For years SEACC has worked with our member organization, Sitka Conservation Society, to protect Poison Cove in the Hoonah Sound area from logging. Poison Cove is a prime location for local fishing,  hunting, recreation, gathering wild foods, and tourism businesses. It’s also the gateway to one of the largest undeveloped stretches in the Tongass. Now the area faces another threat.  Poison Cove is one of the “Enterprise Sites” that would be privatized in Representative Don Young’s recent Sealaska Land Entitlement Bill.  “Places like Poison Cove are invaluable for our communities and our wildlife and should remain open for everyone.  That’s why we need lasting protections for the most important places in the Tongass,” said SEACC Executive Director Russell Heath.
