"Devil's Club" or "Hemlock Society"

The small, ad hoc group of Tongass stakeholders who got together to try to find common ground in how to manage the Tongass are often referred to as the "Devil's Club" or "Hemlock Society."

Although the names were first given to the group by skeptics who opposed their efforts, the names stuck as the group was more interested in finding agreement on the Tongass than in finding a better name for their ad hoc group.

Participants in the Devil's Club or Hemlock Society are (in alphabetical order):

Brian McNitt - Alaska Conservation Foundation
Bruce Wallace - United Fishermen of Alaska
Chris Maisch - Alaska State Forester
Erin Dovichin - The Nature Conservancy
John Sisk - The Nature Conservancy
Kirk Dahlstomg - Viking Lumber
Laurie Cooper - Alaska Wilderness League
Lindsey Ketchel - SEACC

Steve Kallick - Pew Environment Group
