On February 13, 2019 Governor Dunleavy revealed his FY2020 proposed budget which would slash the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) budget by a whopping 75 percent, a reduction of $98 million.
The Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) is an essential service linking Alaskan residents and communities, in times of both sadness and celebration, and facilitating commerce, economic development, and access to basic goods and services. The Governor’s proposal to gut this critical service hurts Southeast communities and our economy.
The House Finance Committee is currently taking testimony from people all over Alaska about the governor’s proposed budget, yet the House Majority Coalition has yet to reveal an alternative budget.
Sign our petition to ask the House Finance Committee to prioritize funding our ferries enough to maintain adequate operations and maintenance expenses in order to provide consistent and planned service for all of Alaska's 33 coastal communities.
