Many thanks to Elise Tomlinson and Elizabeth Jurgeleit for the artwork and design concept!

We’ll have a limited inventory of adult T-shirts and hoodies in a few colors at our booth at the Southeast Alaska State Fair from July 28 to 31, so be sure to stop by and see us there! And our full line of No Palmer Mine merchandise in all styles and colors is available online now!

If you’re new to this issue, two foreign corporations are trying to develop a dangerous underground mine at the headwaters of Chilkat Watershed, just upstream of the Chilkat Indian Village of Klukwan, the Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, and the community of Haines. We are working hard to protect one of the most biologically diverse watersheds in all of Alaska from the proposed Palmer Mine, which could leach acid mine waste and heavy metals into the Chilkat River system forever, harming salmon and human health. This pollution could begin as soon as next summer, if the project advances to underground exploration, even if a full-blown mine is never developed.

You can learn more about the proposed Palmer Mine, and find easy, one-click actions to stop the mine here at our Chilkat Action Page. Be sure to watch the short film, Rock-Paper-Fish to get a clear sense of this incredible watershed, and what the proposed mine could mean for the communities and life that depend on it. Then, don’t forget to go back to our Chilkat Action page to help us stop this mine!

The Chilkat Watershed is facing threats that could harm this place and its abundant, diverse life and thriving communities for the long haul. You can take a stand to protect the Chilkat Watershed, and demonstrate your support by wearing one of our beautiful new No Palmer Mine shirts.

Thank you for your support of our work to protect the Chilkat Watershed and Southeast Alaska! This is an ongoing, evolving issue, so please stay tuned for upcoming action alerts as we develop new ways to take action for the Chilkat Watershed. You can also support our work with a direct donation to SEACC. We couldn’t do this work without you!

Sincerely,
Shannon Donahue
